Laternier Limoges Porcelains     L15

Frederic Laternier began as a Limoges porcelain exporter about 1857. From 1885 to 1887 he was in the partnership Lanternier & Breuil, which reopened a factory in Rue la Fonderie, Limoges, to make whiteware. In 1887 the son, Alfred Laternier, joined the firm.

Alfred Laternier (c1859-1932) worked in England from 1877-1881, then became the European representative for Wedgwood. In 1887 he joined his father's Limoges company and Breuil left. In 1890 the Laternier s took over the old Ardant factory. In 1914 Alfred joined with his brother-in-law as A. Lanternier & Cie. The company made utility tableware and decorative pieces; toward the end of WWI they made only doll heads. In 1960 the company moved to part of the GDA works. In 1978 they were still owned by the family.
