Gerard Dufraisseix Morel/Abbot Limoges     g10

In 1881 Charles Field Haviland retired, and Charles Field Haviland & Cie was taken over by E. Gerard, J. B. Dufraisseix, and Morel (GDM). The new owners continued to use the CHF decorating mark but also used a CFM/GDM porcelain mark. Apparently Charles Field Haviland continued in export/import as part of Haviland and Gagner, then Haviland and Abbot (red overglaze mark c1886-). See Charles Field Haviland for previous history.

Of there partners, Emile Gerard was director, Jean-Baptiste Dufraisseix the decorater, and Morel the color technician. Morel specialized in high temperature colors and added bright clear colors to the palette. Together they improved the efficiency and output of the company.

Morel left in 1890, and 10 years later in 1900 Edgar Abbot, who had been partner in CHF's import firm from 1886, became a partner in what was renamed Gerard, Dufraisseix & Abbot (GDA). GDA opened a Paris branch in 1902. In 1929 GDA purchased Haviland & Co. In 1941 they sold rights to both certain Charles Field Haviland models and the round red decoration mark to the Robert Haviland and C. Parlon company. Thus the mark passed to a completely unrelated company, despite both being named Haviland.

Raymond Clappier became manager of GDA in 1950. At some time, perhaps the 1970s, Royal Limoges was added to the name. The old factory was damaged by fire in 1981. It was designated an Historic Monument in 1987. Another fire in 2001 occasioned a stock liquidation sale and reorganization. Operations continue as Porcelaine GDA-Royal Limoges, 28 rue Donzelot, Limoges, with an additional modern factory in Dorat near Limoges, and with a website, which loads very slowly and tells very little.
