Chastagner Limoges Porcelains
c50
In 1946 A. Chastagner reopened the Limoges factory in Faubourg des Casseaux, established by Gibus and Redon in 1872 and used by La Porcelaine Limousine from c1906-1938. He operated as Societe de Fabrication Porcelainiere Limousine - Porcelaines Chastagner.
In 1955 Chastagner was the first porcelain maker to try a new gas furnace (GDF-Prevot), and in 1958 he added a new building designed by Georges Faure, who probably also designed an addition built in 1964. Production was mostly tableware, both whiteware and decorated.
Son Gerard Chastagner became director in 1971 and reorganized as SA Chastagner Porcelaines in 1980. In 1998 the company was bought by Soc. Coutellerie et d'Orfevrerie Francaise, which was liquidated in July 2002. The factory was heavily damaged by fire in 2003 and has probably been demolished.
Gerard Chastagner retained the company's models and molds and continues artisinal production just outside Feytiat, 10 minutes from Limoges. He paints porcelain in a charming 16th Century priory, which Gerard and his wife Mady operate as a Gite (Allée du Puy Marot).
