Chapus Limoges Porcelains
c45
Jean CHAPUS (1867-1933) was a Limoges porcelain decorator and manufacturer. He worked for W. Guerin before joining the Alary workshop on Rue Montmailler (Limoges) in 1890.
In 1900 Chapus and a partner Denardon took over a factory in an old Augustinian convent and produced mostly decorated tableware for restaurants. About 1928 Chapus was joined by 3 sons. They bought the M. Raynaud factory in Faubourg Montjovis (Limoges) and traded as Manufacture Porcelainiere Limousine, making tableware in simple styles.
In 1933 the company became s.a.r.l.Porcelaines Chapus Freres under the eldest son Louis Chapus. The name Chapus was sold to Andre Reynaud in 1974 and was incorporated into a mark Royal Chapus Limoges under a crown.
