Charles Field Haviland & Cie Porcelains     h25

About 1852 Charles Field Haviland left the USA to work in Limoges for his uncle David Haviland (do not confuse with Charles Haviland, a son of David Haviland). In 1859 CFH started a small decorating studio with another uncle Richard Haviland; they decorated Alluaud porcelains for export to the USA.

In 1865 CHF rented a porcelain manufacturing company in partnership with his father, Robert B. Haviland, and his brother F. Haviland. Sometime before 1870 a decorating studio was added, and in 1870 CFH started a manufacturing company, Charles Field Haviland & Cie, with O. Gagner. In 1876 CFH took over the old Alluaud factory in Faubourg des Casseaux (now Rue Donzelot), Limoges, after marrying Alluaud's granddaughter.

In 1881 CFH retired from the firm, and it was taken over by E. Gerard, J. B. Dufraisseix, and Morel, who continued to use the CHF decorating mark as well as a CFM/GDM porcelain mark. Apparently CFH continued in export/import as part of Haviland and Gagner, then Haviland and Abbot (red overglaze mark c1886-). See Gerard Dufraisseix Morel/Abbot to continue the story

Charles Field Haviland & Cie Marks

.
CFH and others Limoges mark Mark H25a: Decoration mark of Charles Field Haviland in black, brown or blue, 1859-1881; continued also in red or gray by Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel 1882-1900; continued only in red by Gerard, Dufraisseix & Abbot 1900-1941. If there is not also a porcelain mark, mark H25a is probably by Robert Haviland and C. Parlon company after 1941.

Two different porcelain marks were only CFH and a third was Porcelaines a feu CFH Limoges enclosed in a box.

We do not know if Charles Field Haviland & Cie made Limoges boxes.
