Alumnite Rene Frugier Limoges     a20

After training at the Sevres porcelain factory, Rene FRUGIER rented the Limoges factory des Tanneries in 1899, then bought it in 1907.

Frugier's special porcelain used high proportion of clay to flux and was fired at 1430°C to make heat resistant porcelain for cooking. It was sold as Aluminite and won prizes in Paris in 1900 and 1901 and in London 1902. In 1910 the factory was enlarged and renamed L'Aluminite, S. A.. During WWI L'Alumnite made lab ware, then also refractory glass. After the war, production returned to tableware.

L'Alumnite merged with La Porcelaine Haviland in 1964.

It's very doubtful that Rene Frugier Alumnite made any Limoges boxes, and the mark is rarely seen in the USA.
